Mission,
Goal and Objectives
In Niagara Region there
is about 17,000 hectares of woodland. Most is privately owned. Woodlands add
significantly to our quality of life. They provide income, habitat for
wildlife, clean water, a source of materials, and exceptional places for
recreation and enjoyment. Overall, Niagara's woodlots add to the beauty of the
region. Active and good management will improve woodlots. It will also increase
or sustain the benefits obtained, especially for the woodlot owner.
Mission: Encouraging
healthy woodlands in Niagara
Goal: To
encourage the development, improvement and responsible management of private
woodlands.
Objectives:
- To promote good woodlot management and to
assist in the distribution of information at meetings, workshops, field days
and through newsletters.
- To provide members with technical
information on all aspects of forest management from planting to harvesting
including, but not limited to: timber and fuelwood production, plantation
management, windbreaks, woodlot safety, woodlot operations, forestry equipment,
creation and preservation of wildlife habitat, preservation of rare and
endangered species, and the production of other products such as ginseng, maple
syrup, shitake mushrooms and ecotourism.
- To assist
members in the marketing of products from woodlots and plantations.
- To support
the best interests of the members with respect to legislation, taxation and
regulations.
- To encourage and support research and
development projects as they relate to the objectives of the Association.
- To collect and make available to members a
wide variety of data regarding woodlot management.
- To encourage and promote the exchange of
information between the Niagara and other woodlot owner associations.
- To facilitate contact between woodlot owner
and forestry-related professionals and experts.
